In this video we investigate the South African country kit that is available for Autodesk Civil 3D 2026. We note that unlike some of the other countries, the South African country kit has not been updated since 2022. This presents us with some challenges.
We show where to download Civil 3D country kits from, including the UK Ireland as some of our clients might be working on projects overseas that leverage their protocol. Since 2025 the UK Ireland country kit is downloadable from the libraries in the civil 3D details from one’s Autodesk account. Again, this is not so for the South African country kit.
After we downloaded the South African country kit in zip format we extract the files and show how and where to copy the files. This includes hidden files and folders that can be made visible by changing the view settings on the windows File Explorer. We further note that the South African pipe and pipe structures needs some editing and manipulation before behaving correctly in civil 3D and that while the gravity pipes are available, the pressure pipes or not.
We consult the 2014 PDF that was released for the South African country kit noting that anyone using the country kit should study the PDF to understand what is contained within it.
We then open a file from the South African template and briefly show how to set up hey coordinate system (optionally transforming the coordinate system for interaction with Revit). We show how some of the styles are specific to South Africa. We then demonstrate how to set the pipe network catalog and to create a parts list for the pipe network. In doing this we show how we have access to the pipes within the South African country kit. We also demonstrate that the pressure pipes for South Africa is not available.
When we navigate in windows to the South African pressure pipes definitions, we note that these sizes are available within XML files and so in theory we should be able to use the Infrastructure Parts Editor to set up a pressure pipe catalog in time. As of the time of this blog the Infrastructure Parts Editor has not been released for 2026 yet.
Unfortunately, the country is not maintained for South Africa and so it is left to the reader to gain what they can from the South African country kit that is currently available and to maintain it for themselves. Perhaps, in future, we might have some regulatory authority maintain the South African country kit for us.
