Autodesk’s Robot Structural Analysis software is incredibly powerful, but its user interface (UI) can be a bit challenging at first. You’ll need to invest some time mastering the layout and functionality, as many commands aren’t immediately obvious—you only discover them when you know where to look.
We’ve created a helpful YouTube tutorial on how to create grids in Robot, which is your starting point for building your model (check out the clip here). After setting up your grid, the next step is loading all the profiles you plan to use in the model. Robot has an extensive library, including the SAISC 2010 profiles, but you’ll need to load the specific profiles you need into your project.
To do this, click on the Members button, which opens the Members dialog window. From there, click on the button located to the right of the Section dropdown.

This will open the New Section dialog window, which offers a lot of options. You’ll need to choose the appropriate section type, material, gamma angle, and then select your profiles. In South Africa, for example, you would select the SAISC 2010 database. Once selected, click on the icon representing the member you’re interested in, or specify the relevant family.

When you find the profile you need, simply click Add. The profile will now be available for selection as a member in your model.
