What’s new in Revit 2026 – Documentation Updates

Whats new in Revit 2026 Documentation Updates

Autodesk Revit 2026 introduces several documentation and usability enhancements that give users more flexibility and control when working with sheets, views, and imported files. Below is a breakdown of the key updates.

Editable Reference Labels for Views

Previously, when referencing views using Section, Elevation, or Callout tags, the ‘Reference Label’ was a Type Parameter visible only in Type Properties.

In Revit 2026, the Reference Label is now an Instance Parameter located directly in the Properties Browser. This change allows you to easily edit the text label for sections, elevations, and callouts on the canvas. The label now accommodates both single-line and multi-line text, offering greater flexibility. This can be seen below when creating a section marker that references another view.

Sheet Scale Override for Multiple Scales

Before this update, if a sheet contained views with multiple scales, the scale parameter would automatically display ‘As Indicated’.

In Revit 2026, you can now override this default text using the new ‘Scale override (multiple Values)’ parameter within the title block. This field accepts custom text, allowing you to enter descriptions like ‘Varies’ or ‘Not to Scale’ instead of being locked to the default.

Updated Double-Click Options

The customizable double-click options have been expanded, providing more granular control over how you interact with views and schedules on sheets:

  • Inside views on sheets: Do Nothing, Activate View, or Open View
  • Outside views on sheets: Do Nothing or Activate View
  • Schedules on sheets: Do Nothing or Activate View
  • Slow-double click: Rename or Do Nothing

These dedicated options give you more precise control over the user interface.

Manage Imported CAD Files

One of the more practical improvements is the inclusion of imported CAD files within the Manage Links dialog. In past versions, only linked CAD files and models were listed, leaving imported files harder to track and control. With Revit 2026, all imported files—including DWG, DXF, DGN, SKP, and AXM formats—are now visible in the dialog for both projects and families.

The dialog also introduces filters to sort files by status and reference type. A new “Show” feature, accessed via the light bulb icon, highlights the location of imported files in the project. Additionally, when an imported file is selected, the right-hand panel displays a count of instances, making it easier to track and manage external data across a project.

The listed changes to the documentation are small but definitely useful, giving users some flexibility in documentations and improved management of linked files.
