When trying to log into your Autodesk account you might have been met with a message saying that you need to enter the verification code that has been sent to your email address. This might be confusing as you never set your profile to use 2 factor authentication with your Autodesk account.

If you had setup your 2 factor authentication, you would have had the option to either get an sms on your cellphone, or create an OTP (one time pin) with an authenticator app that you can download. This can either be the Google Authenticator or the Microsoft Authenticator. Please be aware that for this update where the OTP is automatically sent to your email, Autodesk has stopped sending OTP’s to your cellphone number.
This behaviour is normal as Autodesk has started rolling out this function automatically to increase security for your Autodesk account regardless if you have signed up for 2 factor authentication.
When you do use the OTP on your email for the first time, a message will pop up which will contain a backup code. This backup code needs to be saved by clicking on the download icon. This will allow you to access your account if the means of you receiving the OTP is not available at that time and you urgently need to get into your account. Please keep this safe and do not give it to anyone under any circumstances.

One of the reasons that Autodesk have done this is that they bringing a new, more modern experience for signing up and logging into your Autodesk Account. So with building this new platfrom, the first change is the 2 factor authentication with an OTP that is delivered to your email address. This new platfrom is being rolled out to everyone in June 2025.
