Let’s understand ACC collaborate duplicate file names. Consider a scenario where a company has a vertically integrated structure. If a naming standard is enforced, we may end up with two teams with the same originator code.
This is so that we can keep them in silos. The question now becomes whether the enforced naming standard will preclude the teams from duplicating file names. It doesn’t. We are perfectly able to create two files with the same name in different teams.
An alternative structure can also be contemplated with the company disciplines managed from within the team folder and permissions assigned by role. Once again, the same question presents itself – can the enforced naming standard keep us from duplicating file names?
First note that a specific folder cannot contain files of similar file names.
However, as soon as you delve into a subfolder you can quite easily create a file with a duplicate file name.
So, this presents the manager of a project on an order desk cloud construction hub with clear guidance. If possible, apart from folders within which only consumed files will be leveraged (Navisworks and clash detection come to mind), teams should be restricted to only one folder within which their design files are kept. This allows the system to eliminate duplicate file names.
Since a user is unable to be assigned more than one company, vertical integration should then ensue by virtue of having multiple roles assigned to one user.
Separate teams may then be created with dissimilar originator codes to represent the vertically integrated disciplines within the company. Permissions must be assigned accordingly. Please consult the following blog for detailed instructions on how to vertically integrate departments in companies to separate them into silos without the possibility of creating duplicate filenames.
