Advance Steel 2021 – Prepare the Numbering Settings for Bill of Material

A student recently had to create a small project for Advance steel, where they started from a template. When one completes files from a course, typically, most of the settings have already been applied for the student. It therefore comes as a surprise when they try to create a Bill of Materials (BOM) and the take-off will not work.

The following error shows up:

‘No matching base objects found. Please check the selection definition. If the property \”class\” is switched on, a value (beam, plate, …) is required’

The steps that you need to take are stipulated in the following article

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/advance-steel/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/No-matching-base-objects-found-when-trying-to-create-the-bill-of-materials-in-Advance-Steel.html

On the ribbon: –> Output –> Part marks panel –> Numbering

This opens the Numbering – Identical Part Detection dialogue. On the General tab, make sure to check the box for Process assemblies on the Assembly region.

If you need help to adopt Advance Steel in your practice, please contact Micrographics so we may be of assistance.
