Advance Steel 2023 – Shaft Reduction in Advance Steel

Advance Steel is great at creating joints in structures for steel fabrication. It is not well suited to a mechanical Engineering design platform like Inventor or Fusion 360. That said, it is possible to create a shaft and turn it down to size. A part is created, and the manufacturing drawing can be created form this part. We show how to use two semi-annular profiles and how to cut them from the shaft to reduce the diameter. The same process can be used to add a rectangular keyway.

The reader should note that Inventor or Fusion are platforms that are dedicated to machinery design and should rather be considered as separate subscriptions as the efficiency might validate the investment. Furthermore, stress and deflection analysis of joints can be done using these platforms.
