Advice for Running Lumion 2025 on Windows 11

We recently had a few clients experiencing difficulties running Lumion on their PCs. These are very good machines that were recently upgraded to Windows 11. Their Lumion had been upgraded to 2025 and their graphics drivers were up to date (at least as far as they were concerned). They invested in a nice large SSD to work on Lumion files locally as opposed to on a cloud synchronized drive (a definite no-no with Lumion). So why were the installations misbehaving?

Windows 11 Graphics Settings is probably the one reason why most of the design software of our client base is misbehaving. In the case of Lumion in 2025, catastrophically so. For some other reason when you install Windows 11, the default behavior is for Windows to shift the workload allocated by your design software from dedicated GPU to the onboard GPU as it sees fit. You need to change this behavior in Windows 11 through the graphics settings.

The next thing you should probably do is change the power settings of Windows 11. Depending on what it is sent to, your computer will throttle your graphics card once it starts drawing power. Choose “Best Performance”.

You should be installing the Nvidia Studio Drivers (not the gaming drivers).
