AutoCAD 2021 – Using a Layer Translator

Using layer translators become important when one is creating CAD files that conform to layer naming standards. It is often the case that legacy files or files that are received from external parties do not conform to the standards that the receiving party requires. Layer translators map one standard to another.

This is a laborious process to set up at first, but once it is done, relatively easy to apply. Every layer first must be mapped to the corresponding layer. This may be done to map, say American naming standard to the UK standard, or from one internal company standard to another. It is also an easier interface to make layers conform even if it is only one file that needs to be transformed.

Once the mapping is done, it is saved out to an external file, after which it may be loaded into any file and applied.
