I recently had the opportunity to evaluate the abilities of Autodesk Field, a license that allows contractors and designers to leverage the cloud on a construction project.
On this project, the supply chain was looking to use Collaborate on the construction site using printed PDF documents. This requires a browser as the PlanGrid mobile app is only available for Field. Using the web is fine if one uses a laptop, but it becomes challenging on a tablet and impossible on a cellphone. As we will demonstrate below, it is critical that those in the field have access to Autodesk Build (PlanGrid App).
As an example, consider the image below, viewed on a cellphone on the PlanGrid App. The sheets are clearly visible and easy to navigate.
When one of the sheets are opened in PlanGrid, the controls are also easy to use and issues are created with ease.
Compare this with the web interface as seen on the same phone. Although it is possible to see the first file, one can’t navigate beyond that. So, for all practical purposes, the app is not navigable on a cell phone.
Even when the file is opened, one can barely work with it. It is not possible to work with the web browser on a small device.
