Autodesk Collaborate Pro – Use PlanGrid for Sheets

When a BIM supply chain buys into an Autodesk Construction Cloud Build license, they have an option on a license based on the number of sheets they would like to manage. This is important because the mobile app for the platform, PlanGrid Build, works well with sheets, but not so much on the web.

Sheets are published drawings that are available on the platform for all users of Build to see. Consider how good this looks on the mobile app on a cell phone. Using the app is a very good idea if you are on-site with a tablet or a cellphone. Note, the app is limited to documents that is held within the “For the Field” section of the Build Platform. There is no access to the Project Files section.

Not using the app restricts one severely when accessing files and performing operations on them. If one has a laptop the process might proceed well, or even a large tablet, but I would prefer to use the App on site. I would say that using a cellphone to access the project on the web is impractical.

When using Build on a project, please consider using Sheets for the correct functionality. Start off with 550 sheet licenses if necessary, and then upgrade to the 5000 sheet or unlimited license. The ability to leverage the mobile app is certainly worth it. Referencing RFI’s, photos, documents to issues (snags) is a great addition to the team in the field.
