Autodesk Plant 3D 2022 in Navisworks 2022

I recently uploaded a Plant 3D model into the Autodesk Construction Cloud and brought it into Navisworks.

The upload to the cloud resulted in a folder with the name of the project in the root folder of the Project Files region of Docs. This is one of the first things to consider when thinking about the folder structure that is to be set up, and the teams that are created.

Secondly, when the elements of the Plant 3D models are brought into Navisworks, their properties like “Length” does not automatically get mapped on take-off. Instead, one is required to map the properties so that quantity take-off is possible.

When considering a pipe network like one would find on a typical Plant 3D model (something like a petrochemical plant), then the classification of elements must be detailed enough to categorize the many different pipes and pipe fittings that exist. For this reason, the Uniclass classification system is more suited than the Uniformat classification system.

With the Uniclass system, all the different pipe fittings can be taken off and a proper quantification done. The Lead Design must take this into account when specifying the classification in the BIM Execution Plan.
