Monday 20th October 2025 was a proverbial blue Monday for Micrographics and most of our customers. Amazon Web Services (AWS) went down due to a Domain Name System (DNS) error. This happened globally and affected most of Autodesk’s services, which are hosted on AWS.
Whenever you notice some service outage or interruption, it is good practice to check on the Autodesk Health Dashboard to make sure that the problem lies on the side of the services running on AWS. I wrote a blog about that here.
Thankfully, the outage only lasted a day or so and the services are back up and running.
Of course, if the cables are severed that lead to your country, this may result in the error not reporting on the health dashboard, something that we are familiar with in South Africa.
For those that need to understand security on AWS please see the Security Whitepaper – Autodesk Construction Cloud.
For the Autodesk construction cloud, I use a large hard drive, sync the entire project onto my hard-drive and then use ROBOCOPY to copy all the synced files onto external media. AWS servers are very secure, and when there is an outage, they generally come back online quickly.
If you want to diversify your redundancy, then you may also be interested in ACC Connect. ACC connect is one of the apps available for the Autodesk Construction Cloud that can help you sync between different cloud platforms.
If you need help adopting the AEC Collection or the Autodesk Construction Cloud in your practice or if you are looking to invest in hardware, please contact Micrographics so that we may be of assistance.
