Revit LT (“LT” stands for “Limited Technology”) cannot bind a Revit link. Revit LT cannot link in another Revit file by shared coordinates. You should keep these two things in mind if you consider purchasing Revit LT instead of the full Revit on a BIM (Building Information Management) project. In this video, we show you how to apply the work-around to “link” a Revit file into your Revit LT project and bind it.

You may wish to do this if you would like to use somebody else’s model and continue working on it. This might be the case were you to design built-in cupboards on an existing architectural model, as was the case with one of our customers.

Here is the recipe:

1. Open the file that is to be linked.
2. Create a model group of the model elements to be linked.
3. Change the origin points of the model group to represent the project-based point.
4. Save the model group out as a Revit file.
5. Insert the newly created model group into Your project including levels and grids.
6. Ungroup the elements.
7. Alternatively insert the Revit file as a link (you can then create multiple groups in the linked file for placing in your project).
