Civil 3D 2024 – UCS and Views for Grading

When you look at a typical site, it is quite possible that buildings and other elements are oriented at different orientations to true north. When you are creating grading when designing drainage for building pads, it is usually easier to work orthogonally to the plot’s local coordinate system. The easiest way to do this is to set up a local UCS, save it as a name, and then to create a view that uses that UCS by default. As soon as you need to design using that grading, you simply need to change out to that view.

It is not a skill that is limited to Civil 3D. Any AutoCAD vertical (built on the AutoCAD platform) can use this in its workflow.
