I’ve been investigating split highway assemblies in Civil 3D recently. To teach myself real-world skills, I’ve tried to reverse-engineer existing infrastructure. Tackling something that is not just composed of a few bends allows one to experience some of the issues that a professional might encounter on a project.

One such issue is the application of speeds to an alignment to meet the requirements as set out in a design criteria file. I concluded that it is better to overstep the point of speed assignment by a few decimal points to make the warnings disappear. In this video we investigate the design criteria file and then show how we visualize the warnings and how to adjust the speed on the road to suit.
