In this short video we look at using the WEEDFEATURES command in Civil 3D.
I discovered the WEEDFEATURES command when my computer ran out of RAM after encountering some heavy polylines (many vertices). We often encounter these large (in memory) polylines in practice. They might be created from some laser scan or extracted from an existing surface. Regardless of how they were created, we would like to have some way to simplify these polylines.
The argument may be made that one should just invest in better hardware, and sometimes that does the job, but it is more efficient to simplify. In my case, there is no such luxury, as the polylines will be used in a course that is run on our training computers, and while they are more than sufficient for most purposes, they cannot handle large Civil 3D models.
If you need help adopting the AEC Collection or the Autodesk Construction Cloud in your practice or you are looking to invest in hardware, please contact Micrographics so that we may be of assistance.
