Prokon’s SUMO module allows you to export files in the IFC4 format, offering two Model View Definitions (MVDs) to choose from:
- Design Transfer View
- Structural Analysis View
(For a more detailed understanding, check out our blog on Importing IFCs into Prokon SUMO.)
Revit supports the IFC4 Design Transfer View, which means you can seamlessly export your model from SUMO to IFC and import it into Revit. I’ve tested this process in Revit 2023, 2024, and 2025, and it works in all three versions with minimal data loss. However, this workflow is not bi-directional; the same file format cannot be imported back into SUMO.
On the other hand, SUMO does support importing an IFC4 file with the Structural Analysis View MVD. This enables bi-directional transfer with other software packages that support this specific format. For a detailed example, see our blog Powerful Bridging with Prokon SUMO.
While it would be great to see SUMO’s IFC4 capabilities expand to support more common MVDs, the current options still offer a practical way forward.
