Include BIM 360 Description Metadata in Revit 2020 Home Dialogue

I recently completed an exercise to consolidate my understanding of a BIM process by completing a flow diagram and I needed to be creative with my BIM file naming.

One of my current irritations is that the description of the BIM 360 file is not shown in the Revit User Interface (UI) when opening from BIM 360 in the Home tab. Note: while it is acceptable to include a description in the file name as per the UK protocol, if the description could be shown in the Revit Home tab then it would not be necessary.

I thought it necessary to create a custom File Type designation for a Coordinate Reset and a CAD container. I did this because I did not want to resort to using descriptions in the file name to differentiate between files, and the Number field on Revit file names is reserved for sheets numbering. In BIM 360 there is a “Description” metadata field that is very useful. If I forget which file type designation I am wanting (XJ or XK) then the description immediately guides me.

In the Revit BIM 360 interface, some metadata is obviously read, but not the Description field.

I maintain that having this description field in the Revit 2020 File Open Dialogue could be very useful and save a lot of time on the production line.  I created an Idea for this. If you think this will help you in your day to day usage of Revit and BIM 360, please vote for the idea here:
