You are welcome to create a folder structure to your liking to host your teams in, But I found it convenient to have them all in one place, as shown below. The team name is actually only the last three digits, but I always predicate the name with an abbreviation of the folder structure that precedes it. This is useful in certain scenarios where the users can only see the folders they have been assigned to. If there were more than one folder with the same name that shows up, the context of the folder structure that precedes it is important.
Go to the Design Collaboration Module
If you have not added any teams, now is the time for you to add them.
You can select the team from the folder structure
Browse to the location of the team then add it.
When you teams are set up, please look at the way in which your design file is set up to publish. Make sure the sheets and views you would like to share are included (the 3D model is automatically transmitted)
Then publish the file/s. The case below is for one file.
One can also publish all the files:
Note what is published.
Go to BIM 360 Design Collaboration. Drop down the teams to select yours and then click on the plus sign in the circle. Initiate a new package.
Choose from sets to include sheet content.
From Models, Include the models you like. One may also include additional documents.
Now share the package.
Add the package to a document set if the is one for the share.
If there are already documents with the same name in the package it will ask you if you want to update:
What is left is for one of the other disciplines to consume the package. Clock on the empty circle:
Click on “Consume”
Just a notification to state that your team space will be updated.
Their team can now link the models in if their files are open, or otherwise the new file versions will be automatically loaded when they next open their files. Browse to the External References when linking in.
Here the Structural silo is linking in the Architectural files we just shared.
Shown in Chrome internet browser:
In the blog following this one, we will look at how to share our design files with other teams using Design Collaboration in BIM 360.
