I had a bit of a rude awakening to the fact that Civil 3D databases need to be migrated from SQL CE to SQL Lite in Civil 3D 2020. I was teaching a class and suddenly the message appeared that the databases need to be migrated! I got that empty feeling on my stomach, but quickly found a reference in Autodesk help, downloaded the migration tool and installed on the student computers. The migrations worked without a hitch.

The Survey Database and Migration Tool for Autodesk Civil 3D may be downloaded off the following page:

After the tool has been installed, select the working folder as usual. Right mouse click (RMC) on the database you are interested in, then hit Migrate.

As can be seen, the database is now ready for use.

The migrated database files are now available in the folder.

I was thankful that the Autodesk solution worked so efficiently, and my class was able to carry on without any issues. At the same time, I was happy to demonstrate how easy it is to migrate an old Civil 3D CE database.

I would recommend that you migrate all the old databases that need to be used in Civil 3D 2020 in good time, just in case any issues appear during the process that need to be managed.

If you need training using Civil 3D or help in your office to apply it correctly, please contact Micrographics so we may be of assistance.
