Revit 2020 Sun Path Graphic Display

One of our clients posed the interesting and relevant question: “Is it possible to change the display properties of a Revit Sun Path?” They use post production software to prepare more appealing visuals for the client. Specifically:

  • Control the size / font of direction indicators
  • Control Line weight / line pattern of sun path
  • Increase Sun Symbol size / Improved Sun Symbol
  • Switch sun rise / sunset times on off & change text size
  • Switch date on off & change text size

Micrographics investigated this and concluded that, in the Revit 2020 Graphical User Interface (GUI), there are no instance or type properties that govern the display as required.

We also cursorily investigated the Revit 2020 Application Programming Interface

Jeremy Tammik also posted some code on the sun path, but it does not have to do with the display as such:

In response to the need for this ability to be added to Revit, we created an idea for you to vote on:

Ideas are a democratic way to vote for what Revit should include for the industry. If you think it is a great idea, don’t just vote for it, but set up a mailing list of colleagues and other people in the industry that might need the same Revit tools in future! Autodesk has really done the industry a great service introducing the Ideas and I am of the opinion it should be regularly perused, and relevant ideas voted for.

If you need training using Revit 2020 or help in your office to apply it correctly, please contact Micrographics so we may be of assistance.
