It can be confusing when you need to connect a transformer up to another. First, note that the connector element of a transformer refers to the primary connector and describes the connector element. The voltage on this connector refers to the line-to-line voltage, which in 3-phase Wye (Star) transformer configuration means it is 1.732*(line-to-ground) voltage. Shown below is the typical South African 230/400 Wye distribution.

When this transformer is connected to a higher voltage transformer, you need to assign the distribution in the Secondary Distribution System. This system corresponds to the connector distribution system of the higher voltage transformer. Again, the connector must be assigned the line-to-lien voltage on the high voltage transformer.

Once it’s Distribution System is assigned – and corresponds to the Secondary Distribution System of the small transformer, you can select the large transformer as the panel for the small transformer.

Clearly the ability to connect circuits up to other components are dependent on proper family vetting and connector assignations, and the correct creation of voltage definitions and distribution systems. Like most things Revit, the setup of the project is the key to success. A voltage has a nominal value, and a minimum and maximum that define the range of connector voltages that can connect to the distribution system. It is best to record these definitions in the Corporate BIM Protocol so that any new user can understand the process from the word go.
