I have great respect for the 2023 BIM Interoperability Tools – which you get for free with your Revit license. You can install it from your Autodesk Account. In this series of blogs, we will be looking at the BIM Interoperability Tools.
Or from the Autodesk Desktop App.
Remember to disable your virus protection and to set your Windows User Account Control to a minimum when installing and activating Autodesk Software.
There is a lot going on in the BIM Interoperability Tools. In the following blogs, I will be looking at some of these tools, learning about them, and applying them to elements in my models. Here is a general overview.
The Equipment Data tool allows you to add shared parameters to families and to populate them in a batch operation.
Like the Equipment Data tools, the Spatial Data tools allow you to add shared parameters to both Rooms and Areas and to populate them in a batch operation.
The Standardization Data tools allow you to apply various standards to the model elements. This is usually done for downstream reasons like project management and safety and quality. A variety of standards are available, and you can even create your own standard document if it is not available (ASAQS) comes to mind for South Africans.
The Model Checker tools are very powerful. These can run automated checks on the models to make sure they are conditioned to have the correct data and model composition.
The COBie Extension tools map data and or an Excel spreadsheet after correct setup and parameter mapping and is a standard used for facilities management.
