Revit IFC GUID and Revit GUID

With a view on identifying equipment in Revit models, I have started investigating how the Autodesk Construction Cloud identifies elements in Build and how Autodesk Tandem identifies elements in the Digital Twin. As shown in this discussion, one can hijack the IFC GUID to reflect the Revit GUID. Even though one can do this, my inclination is not to execute unless it is necessary. I have learned over the years that less is more where BIM models are concerned. If the solution works out the box, and there is no compelling reason to reference back to the Revit GUID, then why do it?

In future blogs I want to delve into other formats like AutoCAD and AutoCAD verticals. I suspect IFC exports will impart an IFC GUID that may be referenced.

In addition, I also want to see how Autodesk’s Data Exchange handles the models.
