Set up Revit MEP Pipe Segment Material

In this video we show how can create a new pipe system material. For illustration we use a fire protection system that needs to be displayed in red.

First create the new material. I this case I am using steel painted red.

Duplicate a pipe type. Call it Fire Suppression. Go to its Type Properties. Then to the Routing Preferences. This page references the families that will be used to create the pipe system. Now go to the Segments and Sizes. This is the dialogue where the pipe material is designated as well as the pipe diameters and whether they will be used for sizing. Note that you can also get to this dialogue.

Note that you cannot readily see the material of a pipe segment definition. You can tag the material of the pipe and then you will know what it is. If you want to change the material, you need to create a copy of the segment using a new material.
