Trouble Shooting Autodesk Advance Steel 2022 Installation

Troubleshooting installations can be trying. I recently had a case where pretty much everything that could go wrong, did go wrong. I privately called the computer “Murphy” (as in Murphy’s Law).

The first trick to be aware of is that you might get the following error. “An error occurred while preparing the installation. Please try again or contact Autodesk Support”

As explained in this article, it is probably something to do with the ODIS installation. This is a recent error that is kicked out, so most users of Autodesk will not be familiar with it.

In my case, this error is generated after stopping an install from completing. I downloaded the installation files by Browser Download, canceled the installation, then tried to install again, and then the error was generated.

The solution is to this problem was quite simple, right mouse click (RMC) on C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AdODIS\V1\RemoveODIS.exe and uninstall as administrator.

Other times it is not that simple. It might be necessary to clean uninstall all the Autodesk software.

For good measure, one can also use CCleaner to repeatedly clean up the registry.

One may even have to uninstall and reinstall the .NET components on: “FATAL ERROR: “Unhandled Access Violation Reading 0x0008 Exception at 1B1BC334h”

In our experience, in situations like these, It is best to install the latest Windows Update.

Then .NET Components reinstall. You can install one by one as per the Autodesk article, or might even be able to download many of them
