Uppercase text in AutoCAD LT
Introduction
A customer recently contacted us to with an issue that on his Autodesk all his text is in uppercase. My initial though was that there might be a problem with the keyboard.
Solution
Upon further investigation I found that there is a system variable in AutoCAD that switches on/off this caps text behavior. The system variable was TextAllCaps. Setting it to 0 will turn off the text being in Caps all the time.
However, this system variable is only available in AutoCAD and not in AutoCAD LT. So, I followed the steps in the link below. https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Mtext-always-appears-as-uppercase-letters.html
In the Windows Registry editor you access the certain AutoCAD LT profile key found in the link above and then the Variables folder. Then change the Textallcaps value to 0. This adjusts the value in the Windows registry and fixes the issue. Just make sure AutoCAD LT is closed when you make these changes.
Note that please follow the step in the link closely as changing the registry incorrectly could harm your PC and software.
Conclusion
Why and how this system variable has changed in the registry in the first place is a bit strange but at least there is a solution.
And the lesson we learnt here is that if you encounter an error in any Autodesk it has probably occurred to someone else and they might have recorded the error and solution on the internet. Normally found on the Autodesk Knowledge Network.
