Consultants must be made aware of this before joining the project. It is best if they just keep to a file naming standard like ISO 19650 and put all the files into one folder, but, especially with Civil 3D, it may be better to keep the folder structure as simple as possible, with short folder names. It should be noted when looking at the path shown below
C:\Users\pauls\ACCDocs\Micrographics Cloud\Cobie Challenge 2022\Project Files\200-Collaboration\Civil\Civil 3D Projects
that the following items can be shortened to increase the tolerance of the hub to folder structures and longer file names.
- Computer name
- User name
- Hub Name
- Project Name
The second warning has to do with permissions on the folders and files.
Make sure that you have full access to the files before copying
If you want, you can even use Robust Copy to copy the items across. Type in Help Robocopy after opening the Windows Command Prompt and then press enter.
This lists an explanation of the command. Ask your IT department if you need help. You can run the command with modifiers.
Here is the code I ran, after which I got no errors on the copy. But remember, this copy was only completed on the hard drive and still needs to sync.
ROBOCOPY “C:\Civil 3D Projects” “C:\Users\pauls\ACCDocs\Micrographics Cloud\Cobie Challenge 2022\Project Files\200-Collaboration\Civil\Civil 3D Projects” /E /J /COPY:DAT
It can clearly be seen that the folder structure is reproduced with the contained files.
Again, I was notified of issues when syncing to the cloud, like the ones that were generated the last time.
