What is DiRoots and how can you use it in a Revit environment?
Introduction
DiRoots is a team of developers creating custom software and also free Revit plugins and many other services. More information can be found on their website www.diroots.com
Problem
A recent question was asked by one of our Revit MEP customers wanting to select and renumber some fabrication ducts adding Marks to each. I did a search and found two DiRoot apps that can solve the problem.
Solution
The two apps are OneFilter and ReOrdering. OneFilter would select the items by means of a certain unique property and ReOrdering will assign a Mark to each selected component.
Downloading and preparing
You can download these and other apps from the DiRoots website at https://diroots.com/plugins/ or the Revit App store.
You can also request a quote to develop custom apps. They also except donations to support the free apps.
In this case I downloaded the apps from the Revit app Store by following a link from the DiRoots website or this one: https://apps.autodesk.com/RVT/en/List/Search?isAppSearch=True&searchboxstore=RVT&facet=&collection=&sort=&query=diroots I downloaded both he OneFilter and ReOrdering apps.
Once downloaded I installed both for Revit 2021.
Opening Revit 2021 it asked me the normal Security question with regarding the new plugins.
Using OneFilter
This tool is used to select multiple objects. I opened the MEP sample and used the tool found in the DiRoots tab. In the dialogue box I could easily use the Filter tan to search for all the ducts that had a System Classification equal to “supply air’. It found 370 items and I selected Select at the bottom.
Using ReOrdering
With these 370 item selected I minimise the app and opened ReOrdering app. Again I could simply add a Mark numbering system on the left including a Prefix and clicked Apply. It worked a bit and added the Marks to all of the 370 Ducts.
Creating a Duct schedule, I can see all the items have a Mark added.
I also tried the same workflow with Fabrication parts, and it add Marks to the whole run including Straight and Bends in one command.
Conclusion
Im quite impressed with the quality and simplicity of the two DiRoots tools and I can urge you to use these tools and the others. If these same you time and money please Support the development of these free apps by donating to the development efforts.
