Inventor 2019.2 Frame Generator Improvements

A big improvement that Autodesk has included in their recent 2019.2 is the ability to automatically configure the naming convention of your Frame Generator parts and assemblies.

To access the file naming default options open the Application Options dialog box and select the file tab.

Bottom left of the page you will see Options.  Select the File Naming Defaults button.

The following dialog box pops up.

As you can see in the above image you are able to control the naming convention of the following  3 aspects of Inventor Frame Generator.

  • Frame assembly name
  • Frame member name
  • Skeleton part name

For the Frame assembly name you can have the following attributes in the file name.

  • Assembly name – this is the name of the assembly that the frame generator parts are in.
  • Unique number – a unique number generated by Inventor
  • Index number – this is a number starting from where you specify and increments by 1. eg. 1, 2, 3, 4 or 01, 002, 003, 004
  • Reset – this resets the naming convention to the default

For the Skeleton part name you can have the following attributes in the file name.

For the Frame member name you can have the following attributes in the file name.

Including the Assembly name, a Unique number and an Index number you additionally have the following attributes.

  • Content centre property

  • Family name from the content centre
  • Manufacturer name
  • Material of the frame
  • Part Number
