When you are creating a sketch, you do have the ability to use Point Snaps, this allows you to snap directly to certain sketch entities, as needed or required. This can be very beneficial when utilized and understood.
The different snap Points available are:
- Endpoint – this allows to snap to an endpoint on a line or rectangle for instance.
- Midpoint – this allows to snap to the centre of a geometric line.
- Intersection – this allows to snap at the intersection point of two different entities.
- Centre – Allows to snap to the centre of a radius or circle.
- Quadrant – allows to snap to one of four different points on a circle. The four quadrant points moves like a clock position on a circle. The first point would be on the 12 , second point on the 3 , third point on the 6 and last point on the 9 if you think about in conjunction with a clock.
- Tangent – allows to snap tangent to a radius or circle.
- Mid of 2 points – allows to snap to the middle of two different point entities.
- Apparent intersection – allows to snap where the intersection of two points occur.
To use point snaps:
- you can select the sketch tool you want to use, for instance a Line or Circle as example.
- Right click on your mouse button and select Point snaps.
- Choose the Point snap you want to use.
Note: When using Point snaps, after you have selected your Point snap, and placed your first point, you will have to right click with your mouse and select the Point snap again before placing your second point. Below is an examples of point snaps. The line command was used, and Tangent was selected on opposite sides to form a tangent constrain on the opposite circles to complete the sketch
