Utilizing the Rib and Draft Feature Within Autodesk Inventor

A rib feature supports adjoining geometry and can be created as a solid extrusion with open geometry.

The following steps can be taken to utilize the Rib Feature

  • Ensure the Profiles are drawn for the Rib Feature.
  • Select the Rib Feature
  • Select between the:
    • Normal to sketch Plane – Creates a web perpendicular to the sketch plane
    • Parallel to sketch Plane – Creates a Rib parallel to the sketch Plane
  • Select the Profile
  • Select the Direction
  • Enter the Thickness of the Rib
  • Select the thickness direction of the Rib
  • Select between the:
    • To next – Creates a rib to the next sketch plane
    • Finite – Creates a Rib parallel to the sketch Plane with a specified thickness

In the Draft tab , you will be able to select the draft Angle and the Thickness to be at the top with the draft angle tapper down, or At root where the root keeps thickness and drafts with the specified angle to the top.

The Boss Tab, you can select the Centers and specify the Required diameter , offset and draft angle.

Draft Feature creates a sloped surface within the model.

To utilize the Draft Command Feature , the Following steps can be taken:

  • Select the Draft Feature
  • Select between the:
    • Fixed Edge – Creates a Draft with one or more tangent Fixed edges
    • Fixed Plane – Creates a Draft on a fixed Plane or face
    • Parting Line – Creates a Draft on a parting line or plane
  • Select the Pull Direction
  • Select the Faces
  • Select the Draft angle
  • Select the Draft angle direction
  • Select between the:
    • Automatic Face Chain on or off
    • Automatic Blending on or of
