Probar 2D is a powerful AutoCAD add-on designed for Structural Engineers and Drafters, to create reinforced concrete detailed drawings. It enhances productivity, ensures compliance with local standards and smoothly integrates with other Prokon Software Modules.
Step-by-Step Guide to Detailing Staircase
- Setting a new Project in AutoCAD
- Launch AutoCAD
- Open an empty drawing
- Ensure you are working in Model space
- Annotation Scale should be 1:1 for the model space.

- Creating a Staircase layout
- Import a PDF Drawing (in this case)
- Drag the staircase PDF drawing into AutoCAD. AutoCAD will prompt you to enter the page number to import (enter “1” if only one page exists).
- Specify:
- Insertion Point.
- Scale Factor: Use 1 (can be rescaled later).
- Rotation: Enter 0°.
- Import a PDF Drawing (in this case)

- Enable Snapping for Tracing
- Select the PDF.
- In the Properties panel:
- Enable “Show Underlay” to view the imported PDF.
- Enable “Enable Snapping” to trace over the staircase edges.

- Rescale the PDF to Match Actual Dimensions

- Use SC (scale) command
- Select the base point
- Specify scale factor or use reference, in this case reference
- Specify the reference length on screen
- Enter the actual length 4785, the drawing will be scaled.
- Adjust dimension styles to a suitable drawing scale (e.g., 1:25).

- Drawing over the staircase layout
- go to the home tab
- use drawing tools (e.g. rectangle) to trace over the stair profile.
- Copy the traced staircases to an empty space for clear annotation.

- Add Staircase Annotation
- Includes the following labels before launching the wizards:
- Riser
- Tread/going
- Landing width
- Staircase width
- Staircases gap between the two flights
- Includes the following labels before launching the wizards:

- Launch the Staircase Wizard
- Navigate to: Probar 2D Tab > Wizard drop-down > Staircase Wizard

- Input Staircase Geometry
- In the wizard interface:
- Select Double Staircases.
- Enter Staircases Dimensions as measured on the drawing:
- Tread/Going: 300mm
- Top Level of the Staircase: 2720mm
- Landing level: (170×8=1360mm)
- Width of the staircases: 1350mm
- Define Landing Dimension:
- Size and Position of landing
- Input Rebar Dimensions:
- Main Reinforcement: Bar diameter and Spacing
- Secondary Reinforcement: Bar diameter and spacing
- General Settings: Define Support Conditions ( top and Bottom)
- Link Section and Plan bars
- In the wizard interface:

- Configure Reinforcement Layout
- The wizard automatically calculates the reinforcement requirements based on input geometry and design parameters.
- Preview the Reinforcement Layout
- Review the automatically generated rebar layout:
- Main bars in the steps and flight.
- Distribution bars in the landing (if any).
- Adjust the schedule to ensure clarity and accuracy
- Review the automatically generated rebar layout:

- Generate Bending Schedule
- The wizard generates a complete bending schedule, including:
- Bar shapes.
- Lengths and diameters.
- Quantities.
- Adjust the schedule to ensure clarity and accuracy.

Summary
Probar 2D’s Staircase Wizard simplifies a typically tedious detailing task. From drawing tracing to bar scheduling, it reduces manual errors, speeds up delivery, and ensures compliance with detailing codes, SANS 282:2011 and SANS 282:2004.
