When creating 2D schematics in AutoCAD Electrical yo want to try and automate as much as possible. One of the functions that AutoCAD Electrical provides is the ability to add in pin numbers which is great but not so great if you have to manually fill in the numbers each time.
In the below image you can see the relay has pin 1 and 2 and then the pins of the resultant child contacts are 3 – 8 in sequence. Now how do we create this automatically?
Firstly we need to work with the catalog. This is the big database of manufacturer names that you find when editing the component.
Inserting the parent component (in this instance the control relay) we click on lookup to go to the catalog database and select the edit button in the top right hand corner.
Select the cell in coilpins and enter as per the below image.
Select the green tick mark at the top right hand corner to accept and save the changes. Select the row that you have created and AutoCAD Electrical will assign the catalog details with pin numbers to the component.
Insert the contacts or children components and select the previously inserted relay as the parent. You should now see the correct pin numbers being inserted.
