In any CAD program, when creating a mirror feature you would expect that it will behave as a symmetrical object when it is being modified. This is true in the 2D sketch environment as well as the part environment but what about the mirror feature in the assembly environment?

Unfortunately Inventor has not been able to create a mirror feature of parts in an assembly, that when you move the components on one side of the mirror workplane the components that you have mirrored on the other side will move accordingly. That is until now with Inventor 2026.

Inventor 2026 assembly mirror command has been in dvelopment for a few versions now, but Autodesk decided not to releasew until now as they did not want to release it as they believed it would not hold up to the high standards of their users.

The mirror command behaves exactly like the mirror feature with Inventor 2025 with one change in the dialog box. On the left side in the below image you have the option to create a mirror pattern or create a flat structure.

For legacy mirror, you will choose the flat structure. With this option, you are given the option to mirror relationships as well as ground new components. The standard options of creating a copy or mirror component is still available. Once the flat structure mirror command is created, your tree will look like the following.

If you select the new mirror pattern option, you will notice that you are unable to select ground components or mirror relationships. Once created your tree will look like the following.
