DWG Export Settings

Autodesk Revit is an excellent application used to create BIM models in the AEC (Architecture Engineering and Construction) space. Learn Revit Architecture, Revit Structures and Revit MEP by registering for and attending the courses we at Micrographics offer. Certificates issued are internationally recognized and CPD points are awarded by the relevant regulatory authorities for them as well (peruse our website for further details).

It is important to be able to export views to DWG format.

Detail views are partially constructed from model elements and can therefore not act as drafting views. However, an Architect may well wish to transform the detail views to drafting views by:

  1. Exporting the detail view to DWG
  2. Inserting and exploding the DWG into a drafting view
  3. Saving/importing the drafting view into a drafting view library (Revit project)

While it is possible to create a DWG export setup and transfer it to other projects using Transfer Project Standards, it is not possible to save the setup information to a text file.

Unless a user export setup is created, the setups will not be available for transfer between projects (and will not be visible as a category in the transfer interface).

The <in-session export setup> does not qualify as items that can be transferred between projects.

Note that layer mappings can be loaded from text files. A company may consider creating a text file to load layer export settings from. It is as easy as locating one of the existing standards, then modifying it for one’s own purposes, but every time a new sub-category is created, it would have to be added to the text file for consistency. The standards text files can be found by searching C:\. For Revit 2016 they are to be found in the following folder: C:\Autodesk\REX_2016_Win_64bit_dlm\REX\Autodesk Shared\Extensions 2016\Modules\Tools\DRevitFreezeDrawing\Configuration\

Now one would simply copy one of these files, rename and edit it to one’s requirements, and then load it when exporting to DWG and creating a DWG export setup.
