Revit 2017 – New Structural Connections

I was a big fan of the Revit 2016 Content Generator Extension, and I was very surprised when I found it absent from Revit 2017. Searching through the Autodesk forums I came across and idea posted by my college Charl to include the Content Generator in Revit 2017. I have a suspicion that more people will be voting this idea up when they start using Revit 2017. If you would like to vote this idea up the list, follow the link below and give it the thumbs up!

The reasoning seems to be that the families generated by the content generator do not support the new Revit structural steel connections. This brought me under the impression that all the structural beams and columns now support the connections, but only those in the AISC 14.1 folders do!

Have a look at the YouTube video  and in Revit help:

It is a mystery to me why the content generator is excluded if the common families are not going to accommodate the structural connections either. Perhaps they will be adapted or phased out eventually.

Using the structural connections is really easy!

Draw the appropriate columns and framing.

Select the connections to load into the project through the Connection settings.

After initiating the command, select the connection type.

Select the appropriate members

Hit <Enter>

The properties and parameters are accessible

<Modify Parameters>

This is great for detailers, and remember that the connections can also be taken into Advanced Steel.
