Customizing Inventor Start Page
Part 1 of 2
Autodesk changed their startup page for Inventor a few releases back but as per most users I never really took the time as what they had changed. I just clicked on start working and started the same old routine that I have been using for the last kajillion years. I recently got asked what can we do with this new start page interface.
Well being an Autodesk reseller I had to oblige and take a look and then tell all about it.
Firstly you will notice that if you start a new part file it defaults to imperial (ANSI) standards. Not for me!!! So how do we change this? Easy, the start page. In the top left panel (New) you will see the Configure Default Templates button on the advanced bar.
Selecting this gives the option to change the default measurement units to millimeters and the default drawing standard to a more respectable standard (IMHO), ISO.
The next dialogue box is a confirmation that you will be overwriting the default templates that were originally installed with the software. Click on Overwrite and you are all good to go.
The New files that are created for your Part, Assembly, Drawing and Presentation correlate to your Standard.ipt, Standard.iam, Standard.idw and your Standard.ipn. These are the default templates created for you by Autodesk. If you would like to use your own templates by selecting these standard icons. You just have to make sure that the name of your template is Standard.ipt, iam, idw or ipn.
