Installing AutoCAD with Specialized Toolkit

You have purchased the new AutoCAD 2019 which comes with all the bells and whistles.  Autodesk making the decision to include most of the vertical modules for Autodesk has come as a great enhancement for Designers.

With these enhancement modules, questions have arisen on how to access, install and activate all the software.

Where do I access the software?  How do I install?  Is it all in one installation or are there separate installations that need to be done and then what gets installed?  Do I need to activate each individual software package seperately?

So to help out I am going to answer all of your questions and put your fears to rest.

Just to recap the software that you get with the AutoCAD with specialized toolkit is the following:

  • AutoCAD
  • AutoCAD Mechanical
  • AutoCAD Electrical
  • AutoCAD Architecture
  • AutoCAD Plant 3D
  • AutoCAD Raster Design
  • AutoCAD MEP
  • AutoCAD Map

Where do I access the software?

The software can be downloaded from your Autodesk account.  You are also able to download previous versions as the subscription model from Autodesk allows the use of these versions.

How do I install and is it all installed in one go?

The software needs to be installed separately.  For example, if you wanted AutoCAD Mechanical and AutoCAD Plant, you would first install the one and then the other.  The way that the software works now is the core of the AutoCAD software is installed with the first AutoCAD or AutoCAD vertical so any subsequent installs will just be the modules that you are adding.

Do I need to activate the software individually?

With subscription, you will need to log into the software with your Autodesk Account username and password.  You will also need to activate the software with the serial number and product key.  So the steps to activate AutoCAD with its various modules would be the following.

  • Open the software
  • A dialog will appear asking you if it is Single License or Multi-User
  • If it is Multi-User you select that and type in the name of the server and you are good to go
  • If it is single user you will first have to type in a serial number and then the corresponding product key of the software you are installing
  • You will then be prompted for your Autodesk Account username and password
  • Any subsequent software that you open will prompt you for the serial number(which will be the same for all the AutoCAD’s) and the product key.  You will not have to input details for username and password as AutoCAD will recognize it from the first install.

You are now activated!!
