Do I have to have Inventor to use Vault?

No…No you don’t.

Not a lot of folks out there know that you are able to use Autodesk Vault with most of the software that Autodesk offers.

There are 3 different types of Vault that you can acquire.  Vault Basic, Vault Workgroup and Vault Professional.  The Vault Basic add-in will work with most of the Autodesk software but there are some that will only work with either Workgroup or Professional.

Below you will find a list of what is compatible with which version.

Vault Basic, Vault Workgroup, Vault Professional

  • Moldflow Advisor
  • Moldflow Synergy

  • Simulation Mechanical WS
  • Simulation Multiphysics

The following product will only work with Vault Professional.

  • AutoCAD LT
  • Revit Architecture
  • Revit MEP
  • Revit Structure
  • Revit

The Vault add-in also works for non Autodesk products.

Vault Basic, Workgroup and Vault professional all support Excel, PowerPoint and Word.  Outlook is supported by Vault Workgroup and Vault Professional only.

What if you are using a CAD product that has not been developed by Autodesk? Do not worry.  If you are using Microstation, ProE or Solidworks you are able to use the Vault add-in with the use of Vault Professional.

So to answer the question, you do not need to have Inventor to use the Vault.
