Viewing Data with Autodesk Viewer

Autodesk had a grand vision of easily sharing engineering data with the creation of the DWF/DWFx file format.  Any of the Autodesk products could export to this file format but to view it involved downloading the Design Review software program. For us South Africans it was not very welcome as the download was over 500 MB in size and with our Internet infrastructure a real struggle.  So not everyone was very keen on this.

Fast forward to the present and you see that Autodesk has made sharing data really easy for everyone.  No more downloading of viewers, you just need an Internet connection and an Internet browser.

Let me introduce you to Autodesk Viewer.

With Autodesk Viewer you are able to upload and share most 2D and 3D file formats.  It will convert the file and then be viewable in the browser.  To access the Autodesk Viewer you need to have an Autodesk Account.  This is a free account which gives you access to all of Autodesk’s websites where you need to login.  Another bonus with creating an Autodesk account is that it gives you access to 25 GB of cloud storage on Autodesk A360 hub.

To create the viewable file you can either upload it directly by dragging and dropping the file onto the website page, adding by file or folder by selecting the appropriate button or you can connect to your Box, Google Drive, One Drive or Dropbox account.
