AutoCAD 2023 Installation rolls back

Recently when trying to do AutoCAD 2023 installations I came across a very frustrating situation. No matter what installation files I downloaded AutoCAD would not install. I would even elevate the installation with install as Administrator and it would not go past 10 percent. Going to the log files were also a murky mess but I kept on seeing something called ODIS so I took a chance and I found something!

Now what is ODIS you might ask?ODIS stands for On-Demand Install Service. It is the new installation framework for Autodesk and it is the reason you are getting the installation rollback. So what do we do? Firstly we need to get rid of all traces of Autodesk ODIS by doing the following.

Delete all the data in the following locations –

  • C:\Autodesk\WI\
  • C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Autodesk\ODIS\
  • C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp\

Once that is done we need to navigate to windows services and stop the service Autodesk Access Service Host.

Navigate to  C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AdODIS\V1 and run RemoveODIS.exe as administrator. If this file does not exist delete everything in that V1 folder.

Next install the latest ODIS version from this link. Once you have installed ODIS, install AutoCAD 2023 and this time it should go past the 10 percent mark.
