AutoCAD Short Cut Keys

My wife is a Graphic Designer using Adobe products (Illustrator and Photoshop) and a few weeks ago she was telling me about how she has created all these keyboard shortcuts that she uses for her most commonly used commands.

Things like shift+control+the letter R+# while sipping Pina Coladas on the beach.  I found this to be quite confusing but she was adamant that this was the quickest and easiest way to create a shortcut.

Then the conversation turned to keyboard shortcut keys for AutoCAD.  I said cool.  She said so what is the shortcut for line?  I said to press “L” and then you press the space bar or the enter key to activate.  Oh..thats easy…and how do you learn them?  I said well what command do you want to activate?  She said circle.  So I said type in “circle” and press the spacebar.  Um, don’t you have to click somewhere first?  I said no.  Whatever you want to activate you just type it in.

That is the beauty of the keyboard shortcuts for AutoCAD especially with the dynamic input activated.  Just by starting to type out a command the dynamic input will list all the commands with the sequence of letters that you have typed.  How many times in the past have you typed out the command wrong and AutoCAD tells you that it is an incorrect command?  But I just mixed up one letter. The best part as well is that AutoCAD learns a few of these misspellings and will activate the command.

So there you have it.  AutoCAD shortcut keys, making life easy for the new user.
